Residents invited to drop off recycling at new location

Yuma, Arizona –  With recycling collection containers being removed from the City’s North Public Works Yard on 13th Street, residents who choose to drop off recyclable materials may now do so at Republic Services’ Suburban Transfer Station, 3040 S. Avenue 3-1/2E.

2nd Fire on Same Property Intentionally Set

Yuma, Arizona - On Saturday January 7, 2017, just after 5:00 pm, a fire was reported in the 500 block of South 15th Avenue. Yuma Fire Department personnel found brush, debris, and 2 trees on fire near a vacant house located at 580 South 15th Avenue. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby structures on the property.

William Emory, the Most Significant Explorer You Never Knew

Yuma, Arizona - On Tuesday, January 24th, Bill Heidner, Museum Curator of the Yuma Proving Ground Heritage Center, will present “William Emory, the Most Significant Explorer You Never Knew” at Yuma County Libraries. The founding of the American West was possible largely to a group of Army officers who belonged to the Corps of Topographical Engineers. Among the most influential was Lt. William Emory. Learn more about this great explorer who gave early American pioneers so much knowledge of the Southwest. There is no charge to attend.

Glimpse into Rainforest World

Yuma, Arizona - On Friday, January 27th, Yuma biologist and author Dr. Joanne Mowczko will speak about her stay with the Achuar, an indigenous tribe in the Amazon rainforest, at 3:00 p.m. at the Foothills Library. Many Achuar handicrafts will be on display, and Dr. Mowczko’s book, The Achuar of the Pastaza River, A Glimpse into their Rainforest World, will be on-hand for viewing.
