Yuma, Arizona - On Tuesday July 26, 2016 just before 8:30 pm Yuma Fire Department personnel were sent to the area of the 1900 blk of Paris Court to assist the Yuma Police Department with a welfare check of a person high up in a palm tree. A technical rescue was begun with firefighters initially climbing to the person’s location.
The person, who appeared unconscious, was determined to not be secured in a safe manner, with a large amount of debris on top of him and at risk of falling. An aerial ladder truck was brought in to reach the victim and bring them back down to the ground. The person was assessed once on the ground and pronounced deceased at the scene. The person appeared to have been working on the tree. The cause of death was believed to be accidental and no foul play was suspected.
