Yuma, Arizona - The City of Yuma reminds motorists to plan their travel ahead, including alternate routes in some areas of town as construction work evolves on several major projects.
Underground utility line work has shifted at 16th Street and 1st Avenue (part of the overall 16th Street and 4th Avenue project). Work completed Friday on the south side of 1st Avenue at 16th, and the roadway was open in full over the weekend.
However, work began today on the north side of16th Street. 1st Avenue is now closed between 14th Street and 16th Street. Drivers heading south and to the west should take 14th Street to 4th Avenue. Drivers heading south and to the east should take 10th Street or 12th Street to Arizona Avenue. This traffic pattern will most likely be in place for the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Near the Yuma Palms shopping district, Castle Dome Avenue closed today between Giss Parkway/8th Street and 12th Street for work on an underground sewer line. Detour is to use Pacific Avenue to 8th Street. This work could last 2-3 weeks.
Once that phase is complete, the contractor working on the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex will close 8th Street between Pacific and Castle Dome. Motorists will need to use 12th Street (behind Target). That closure could last into summer 2017.
On the west end of town, work continues to progress on 24th Street improvements between Avenue B and Avenue C. That project is currently focused on a stretch between 31st Avenue and the Sonora Sunset apartments, which could wrap up by the end of this week. The final two weeks of the year, work is scheduled to move to the section of 24th between Sonora Sunset and Avenue C.
