The People of the Palm

Yuma, Arizona - Ever wondered what life in the rainforest is really like? On Tuesday, June 5th, Yuma biologist and author Dr. Joanne Mowczko will present “The People of the Palm” about her stay with the Achuar, an indigenous tribe in the Amazon rainforest, at 10:00 a.m. at the Main Library. Dr. Mowczko will give an illustrated overview of the Achuar tribe and highlight some of their daily activities in a short video. Many Achuar handicrafts will be on display, and Dr. Mowczko’s book, The Achuar of the Pastaza River, A Glimpse into their Rainforest World, will be on-hand for viewing.

Yuma Community Theater 5th Annual Summer Theatre Camp

Yuma, Arizona - Beginning Tuesday, June 5th, the Main Library, in collaboration with Yuma Community Theater, will offer the 5th Annual Summer Theatre Camp for youth ages 12-18. Students will have an opportunity to learn theatre basics, including writing, directing, producing, and acting. On Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th, students will perform a skit they’ve written for family and friends to demonstrate what they’ve learned.

Additional sponsors sought for Back to School Rodeo '18

Yuma, Arizona - The City of Yuma is seeking additional sponsors for the 2018 Back to School Rodeo (BTSR), set for 8 a.m. to noon on Sat., Jul. 21, at the Yuma Civic Center. With the help of sponsorships, the City hosts the annual event at no cost to students and their families, to provide a one-stop shop of information and resources pertaining to many aspects of education for students in preschool through 8th grade.
