Exit Drills In The Home

Are you and your family ready to react if there is a fire in your home? What would you do? Your children practice fire drills in school every month. They know what to do when the fire alarm goes off at school, but that does not mean they know what to do at home.

House Fire 604 South 9th Avenue

Yuma, Arizona - On Monday, at about 8:40 pm, a fire was reported in a home at 604 South 9th Avenue. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel saw smoke coming from the home and all occupants had evacuated safely. Firefighters found that the fire appeared to have been extinguished with a home fire extinguisher but significant damage had been done in the kitchen area. Firefighters confirmed that the fire was out and had not extended into the walls or ceiling areas. They also used ventilator fans to remove the smoke from the home.

AWCTheatre Presents “The Laramie Project”

Yuma, Arizona - AWCTheatre presents “The Laramie Project” by Moises Kaufman and directed by Ann Wilkinson. The play opens on Thursday, October 20th at 7:30 pm. Additional performances are on October 21, 22 and 27-30. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm and the Sunday matinee is at 2:30 pm.  The performances will be held in the AWC Theatre on the Yuma Campus.

Robbery 100 block of S. 4th Avenue

Yuma, Arizona - This afternoon at approximately 1:42 p.m. officers were dispatched to a robbery in the 100 block of S. 4th Avenue.  The victim, a 38 year old male, reported that 3 male subjects approached his vehicle; one reached in and took an undisclosed amount of cash and all three fled on foot.

Smoke Alarm Event

Yuma, Arizona - On Saturday October 8, 2016, from 8 am until noon, a multi-agency effort took place in northwest Yuma to improve life safety. Organized by the American Red Cross, 9 teams of volunteers, and Fire personnel, spread out from the Wal-Mart parking lot at 8th Street and Avenue B to go door to door offering to check the condition of existing smoke alarms, replacing batteries and old non-functional alarms, and providing information about fire prevention.
