Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College welcomed its 9th President on July 1st. Dr. Daniel Corr joined the AWC family from Scottsdale Community College. He is committed to building on the tremendous success achieved by AWC in recent years and looks forward to being an active member of the many communities served by the college. He will focus his early efforts on facilitating student success, increasing access to higher education, creating a comprehensive strategic plan, and fostering a climate of innovation, collaboration and stewardship at AWC.
Prior to assuming the role of AWC’s President, Dr. Corr served as the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Scottsdale Community College (SCC) since 2007. In this position, Dr. Corr had broad administrative responsibility for facilitating the delivery of innovative, high quality instruction, establishing and evaluating student success initiatives and a comprehensive mix of Student Affairs programs and services including Athletics, Civic and Global Engagement and Service Learning. Prior to his tenure at SCC, Dr. Corr held a variety of instructional and administrative positions at three different community colleges in Illinois.
Dr. Corr has always placed an emphasis on establishing and maintaining partnerships. He has spearheaded efforts that established numerous programs for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community on whose sovereign land SCC resides. He has also collaborated with local K-12 school districts on numerous projects including the establishment of an Early College. Creating vibrant partnerships with business and industry has also been a priority for Dr. Corr yielding internship opportunities, equipment and technology donations and much needed scholarship funds. He has also involved faculty and students in the communities they serve with over 1000 students engaging in community-based service learning projects.
Inclusiveness and diversity are critically important to Dr. Corr, both personally and professionally. During his tenure at AWC, he is committed to working diligently to increase the diversity of the college’s faculty and supporting programs to facilitate the success of students of color. Dr. Corr’s appreciation for diversity extends to his personal life. His wife of 23 years was born in Mexico and together they have raised their two teenage daughters in a bicultural environment. As a family, they share a passion for international travel and service
