Yuma, Arizona - On Monday, September 17th, at about 6:20 p.m., Yuma Police Officers responded to a vehicle collision in the intersection of 24th Street and Avenue A.

The initial investigation revealed the driver of a westbound 2016 Mazda sedan attempted to make a U-turn in the intersection, resulting in a collision with an eastbound 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

A passenger in the Jeep, a 6 month old infant, was transported to the hospital with what is believed to be life-threatening injuries. The infant was secured in a child safety seat, however the seat appeared to have been improperly installed in the vehicle. There were no other injuries reported.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.

UPDATE:  Five month old Evelyn Altamirano succumbed to her injuries from the above collision on September 19, 2018.

This case is still under investigation.
