Yuma, Arizona - In November of 2016 a joint investigation begun on a potential drug manufacturing lab in the 2200 block of South Elks Lane. The Yuma Police Department’s Narcotic and Street Crimes Unit worked in conjunction with Yuma County Narcotics Task Force, United States Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, Yuma Fire Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety in reference to this investigation.
In early December information was developed that supported the initial report of a possible drug lab in the area. A search warrant was obtained and due to the hazards associated with this type of investigation, a team of specialists from the Arizona Department of Public Safety Hazardous Materials Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit from Phoenix were requested to serve the warrant.
On December 14, 2016 the SWAT and Hazardous Materials teams from AZ Department of Public Safety served the search warrant at the location. A single suspect was taken into custody and some evidence was recovered.
The investigation is ongoing.
