Yuma, Arizona - On Thursday, just after 11:30 pm, a fire was reported at a commercial building in the 2000 block of South 4th Avenue. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found flames coming from the roof and doors of a large building located at 2098 South 4th Avenue. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent the spread of fire to other nearby businesses (Sound Depot occupies the same lot) and homes.
It took several hours to bring the fire under control and fire crews worked through the night on hotspots and flare-ups. The building housed three workplaces and storage areas, including a cabinet making business. The building and contents were a total loss, including three work vehicles inside and an additional large cargo truck on the outside.
Power in the area was disrupted for several hours due to damage to nearby power lines. Traffic on 4th Avenue in the 2000 block was detoured while firefighting operations were underway. YFD was assisted with firefighters and apparatus from Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Structural Fire Department.
YFD personnel will continue to monitor hotspots for at least most of this morning. There were no injuries and fire investigators were on scene working to determine the cause of the fire.
