Are you and your family ready to react if there is a fire in your home? What would you do? Your children practice fire drills in school every month. They know what to do when the fire alarm goes off at school, but that does not mean they know what to do at home.

Yuma, Arizona - The week of October 7th thru the 13th is Fire Prevention Week nationwide and also has been proclaimed here in Yuma by Mayor Douglas Nicholls. Observation of Fire Prevention Week included a Tuesday (October 9th) night event that included the reading of the proclamation by Mayor Nicholls, with the highlighting of advances in fire prevention by Fire Marshal Kayla Holiman and special recognitions of several City of Yuma Fire personnel.

On Saturday, October 27th, Special Collections Librarian Laurie Boone will present “Yuma Women’s History” at 10:00 a.m. Learn more about the life and career of Helene Thomas Bennett, a food/ chemical laboratory specialist who founded Thomas Laboratories in 1926 and devoted 58 years of her life to the health and well-being of Yuma’s citizens.

Yuma, Arizona - On Thursday, October 25th, the Foothills Library is hosting “Solar Viewing on the Patio” at 3:00 p.m. View the sun through the library’s solar telescope, and look through telescopes that have solar filters to observe sun spots, prominences, and flares.
