Yuma, Arizona -  Last week the Yuma Fire Department responded to 3 snake removal calls. It is estimated that nearly 8,000 people are bitten by venomous snakes each year, which results in 8 to 15 deaths. It is very important to immediately seek medical treatment if you are ever bitten by a venomous snake.

Brush Fire Damages Vacant Building

Yuma, Arizona -  On Tuesday, just after 6:00 pm, a brush fire was reported in the area of 1st Street and 22nd Avenue. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found bushes and several trees on fire, as well as a portion of a vacant 5 unit apartment building. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and kept it from spreading within the building or to other structures nearby.

Five-year report shows increase in AWC’s transfer rate

Yuma, Arizona - A report provided by the Arizona State System for Information on Student Transfer (ASSIST) earlier this month reflected a 33.5% transfer rate increase over the last five years at Arizona Western College, compared to a -1.4% transfer rate statewide.

AWC offers three CTE certificate programs at Arizona State Prison Complex - Yuma

Yuma, Arizona - In an effort to reduce recidivism, Arizona Western College currently has three Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate programs for incarcerated students to enroll in at Arizona State Prison Complex - Yuma. Available programs for inmates at three of the five units at the facility include Masonry, Foundations of Construction, and Plumbing.
