Justice Department Files Statement of Interest in New Asbestos Trust Proposal

Washington, DC - The Department of Justice Thursday filed a Statement of Interest in In re Kaiser Gypsum Co. in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of North Carolina.  In the case, Kaiser Gypsum Company and Hanson Permanente Cement Inc. propose the establishment of a new asbestos trust under 11 U.S.C. § 524(g), a section of the Bankruptcy Code that provides the framework for responding to the unique issues associated with asbestos liability.

NRSE Assesses Leadership Pilot Program for CNIC Enterprise

Jacksonville, Florida - Navy Region Southeast (NRSE) is using participant feedback to assess a leadership development pilot program for military and civilian supervisors which was directed by leaders in Congress. Leadership development is just one of the “Five Lines of Effort” Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC) initiated when it announced its Human Capital Strategy Program focused on better education and training for supervisors.

Mississippi Officer Sentenced for Assault of Restrained Juvenile Detainee

Jackson, Mississippi - Edward Gibson, a former officer at a Mississippi juvenile detention facility, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to 24 months incarceration followed by three years supervised release for beating a shackled juvenile, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney William C. Lamar of the Northern District of Mississippi, and Christopher Freeze, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, Jackson Field Division.
