Lukeville, Arizona - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Lukeville arrested two Glendale, Arizona residents for separate attempts to smuggle more than 600 pounds of marijuana.
Friday afternoon, officers referred a 47-year-old man for further inspection of his Ford SUV towing a trailer as he attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico. A CBP narcotics detection canine alerted officers to the front interior wall, where they found almost 522 pounds of marijuana worth nearly $261,000.
Sunday afternoon, officers referred a 58-year-old Glendale, Arizona woman for a further search of her Dodge minivan. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs throughout the vehicle. Multiple packages of marijuana with a weight of nearly 81 pounds and worth more than $40,000 were seized.
Both subjects were arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, while officers seized the drugs and vehicle.
