Three Points, Arizona - Border Patrol agents from the Tucson and Three Points Sub-Station rescued a woman in distress, requiring helicopter extraction from a treacherous mountain top west of Three Points on Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after noon Tucson Sector Border Patrol Agents received a 911 from a female, stating she was lost, exhausted, and in need of water. The caller was able to provide a general description of her location in the Baboquivari mountains, allowing agents to conduct a search of the desert west of Tucson.
A few hours later EMT trained agents were able to reach the caller who was stranded atop a steep mountain. The woman, an 18-year-old Guatemalan National, illegally present in the country and presumably abandoned by her smuggler, was medically stabilized by the agents who requested assistance from an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Helicopter, Ranger 58.
The DPS air crew conducted a confined space landing and transported the woman to an awaiting Life Flight Helicopter who transported her to a nearby hospital where she was evaluated and later released.
The woman will remain in custody and be processed for immigration violations per Tucson Sector guidelines.
