Yuma, Arizona - This Monday, at approximately 7:10 a.m., YPD and YFD responded to the intersection of 40th St and 5½ E for a report of a vehicle vs tractor trailer.
The investigation revealed a semi-truck made a wide turn and the passenger car swerved to avoid colliding with the semi-truck. The passenger car went into a construction area causing a 4” steel pipe to penetrate through the vehicle which had impaled the driver pinning him to the vehicle. YFD personnel were able to free the 27 year old male driver and he was transported by a helicopter to a phoenix area hospital for treatment.
At the time of this report the driver was listed as critical but stable.
This case is still under investigation.
