U.S. Chamber, INTA Applaud Senate Resolution on Anti-Counterfeiting

Washington, DC - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC) and the International Trademark Association (INTA) applauded the recent Senate passage of S. Res. 542, designating July as National Anti-Counterfeiting Consumer Education and Awareness Month. The Resolution recognizes the 70th anniversary of the first federal U.S. trademark law, the Trademark Act of 1946, commonly referred to as the Lanham Act, and was introduced by co-chairs of the Senate Congressional Trademark Caucus, Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles “Chuck" Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE).

Washington, DC - Today we mark with sadness the seventh anniversary of the death of human-rights defender and journalist Nataliya Estemirova, who was abducted and killed in the North Caucasus region of Russia. Her killers remain at large. Moreover, the abuses that she investigated – kidnappings, torture, and extra-judicial killings – continue with impunity in Chechnya. Across Russia, we see a pattern of attempts to intimidate and harm independent journalists, and members of the political opposition and civil society.

Washington, DC - ConAgra Foods, a Russellville, Arkansas establishment, is recalling approximately 195,597 pounds of frozen chicken and beef entrée products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The metal fragments range in size between 2 and 9 millimeters (mm) in diameter, and are curled, malleable and shiny. The metal fragments may be embedded in the sauce contained within the frozen entrée products.
