Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Fire Department responded to approximately 17,600 emergency calls for service in 2021 (up over 1,000 from last year). Those responses ran the spectrum from unusual, to tragic. The last response of 2021 was for an assault and the first response of 2022 was for a dumpster fire…hopefully nothing prophetic in that…In another year with a significant virus focus, it was suggested that this week’s Fire House Facts again include a selection of some (not all) of the more unusual responses of 2021.

Phoenix, Arizona - Attorney General Mark Brnovich is asking the Arizona Supreme Court to set briefing schedules to allow his office (AGO) to file warrants of execution for Arizona death row inmates Frank Atwood and Clarence Dixon. Both men have exhausted all of their appeals.

City of Yuma secures competitive interest rate on $71 million Utility System Revenue Obligation sale

Yuma, Arizona - In December, the City sold $71 million in utility system revenue obligations to fund improvements to its sewer system plant, increasing wastewater capacity at the Desert Dunes Reclamation Facility to 3.3 million gallons per day. The City Council identified the expansion of the facility as a priority in the City’s adopted Strategic Plan. The City was able to secure a competitive interest rate of 2.26 percent.

Gilbert, Arizona - Yesterday afternoon a shooting occurred in the area of Guadalupe Rd and Arizona Ave in Gilbert, AZ. The shooting involved the U.S. Marshals Arizona Wanted Task Force. The incident began with a Chandler Police Department investigation into sexual conduct with a minor in which Andrew Thompson, 38, was identified as a suspect.
