States Shoulder Brunt of Environmental Regulatory Costs

Washington, DC - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce released a report, titled “The Growing Burden of EPA Unfunded Mandates on the States,” examining the current challenge U.S. states face as they work to comply with and implement myriad new environmental regulations. States administer 96.5% of all federal delegated environmental programs, but the report found that federal grants to states only fund 28% of the amount needed to run the programs.
NOAA awards $5.4 million in grants for endangered, threatened species recovery

Washington, DC - NOAA has awarded $5.4 million in grants to states and tribes in all coastal regions to help in the recovery of endangered and threatened marine species. The agency also opened a call for 2017 proposals under the Species Recovery Grants Program, authorized under Section 6 of the Endangered Species Act.

Phoenix, Arizona - A 16-state coalition led by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich recently filed an Amicus Brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in the Grace v. District of Columbia Second Amendment legal fight. Matthew Grace is a member of Pink Pistols, an organization dedicated to the legal, safe, and responsible use of firearms for self-defense within the LGBT community. Arizona is joined in the Amicus Brief by Attorneys General from Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Former Phoenix Rescue Mission Employee Sentenced to Prison

Phoenix, Arizona - Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced a former Phoenix Rescue Mission employee will go to prison for 3.5 years for stealing social security benefits from the homeless. A judge sentenced Sergio Solorzano after he pled guilty to an Attempted Fraud Scheme, Theft, and Taking the Identity of Another. The Court also ordered Solorzano to pay all three victims $61,286.47 in restitution.
