Washington, DC - Illnesses from mosquito, tick, and flea bites have tripled in the U.S., with more than 640,000 cases reported during the 13 years from 2004 through 2016. Nine new germs spread by mosquitoes and ticks were discovered or introduced into the United States during this time.

Washington, DC - U.S. economic growth and national security depend on the approximately $150 billion invested annually in federal research and development (R&D) funding. To ensure that investment reaps the largest commercial and economic returns possible, the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) are co-leading the Lab-to-Market Cross Agency Priority goal, part of the recently released President’s Management Agenda.
