AWC Governing Board approves preliminary budget

Yuma, Arizona - At last month’s District Governing Board meeting, members approved a preliminary budget that includes no increase to property taxes. Under the leadership of President Daniel Corr and CFO Shahrooz Roohparvar, it was determined during budget planning that the district has sufficient resources to maintain services, and to execute on the recently developed Strategic Plan 2025. With this proposed tax rate increase of zero, AWC’s 5-year rate of 7% will be the third lowest 5-year tax increase in the state, behind Maricopa Community College District (2% over five years) and Yavapai College (4%).

Somerton, Arizona - On Wednesday, May 16th, the Somerton Library is hosting a “Éste es mi México” Drawing Contest! Children ages 6-14 are invited to the library at 1:30 p.m. to draw a picture of their favorite place in Mexico and be entered to win this nationwide drawing contest!

Phoenix, Arizona - The Phoenix Suns have agreed to terms with Igor Kokoškov to become the team’s new head coach, making him the first head coach born and raised outside North America in NBA history. Kokoškov will begin his duties as Suns head coach following the conclusion of the Utah Jazz season.
