St. Louis Resident Sentenced to Prison for Role in a Stolen Identity Fraud Scheme That Claimed $12 Million in Tax Refunds

St. Louis, Missouri - A St. Louis resident was sentenced to 48 months in prison Thursday for his role in a tax fraud scheme, announced Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and U.S. Attorney Jeffrey B. Jensen for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Justice Department Recovers over $3 Billion from False Claims Act Cases in Fiscal Year 2019

Washington, DC - The Department of Justice obtained more than $3 billion in settlements and judgments from civil cases involving fraud and false claims against the government in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2019, Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt of the Department of Justice’s Civil Division announced Thursday.  Recoveries since 1986, when Congress substantially strengthened the civil False Claims Act, now total more than $62 billion.
