Yuma, Arizona - Yesterday, at approximately 3:00 pm, officers responded to an armed robbery at Burlington Coat Factory, 3020 S. 4th Avenue. The suspect fled the scene in a white Pontiac Bonneville, last seen heading towards 4th Avenue.

A team including scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) may have overcome a significant hurdle to manufacturing hydrogen fuel cells by creating a way to check whether the expensive catalysts the cells need have been incorporated quickly and effectively. Improved measurement methods are key to bringing hydrogen power a step closer to economical mass production.

Washington, DC - The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will undertake a study to assess the reliability of forensic methods for analyzing DNA evidence that, if misapplied, could lead to innocent people being wrongly convicted. The study will focus on DNA mixtures involving three or more people, and on very small quantities of DNA also known as touch DNA.

Yuma, Arizona - Last week the Yuma Fire Department responded to a number of trash and yard debris fires, both happen way too often. These types of fires within residential neighborhoods can be a nuisance and a hazard. Fires too close to other combustibles and property lines pose the risk of serious fire spread, especially under windy conditions. Un-permitted fires are unlawful and also result in many unnecessary Fire Department responses, possibly delaying response to other serious emergencies.
