Bacteria therapy for eczema shows promise in NIH study

Washington, DC - Topical treatment with live Roseomonas mucosa, a bacterium naturally present on the skin - was safe for adults and children with atopic dermatitis (eczema) and was associated with reduced disease severity, according to initial findings from an ongoing early-phase clinical trial at the National Institutes of Health. Preclinical work in a mouse model of atopic dermatitis had suggested that R. mucosa strains collected from healthy skin can relieve disease symptoms. The new findings, published May 3 in JCI Insight, support further evaluation of this potential new therapy.

Houston, Texas - The 75-year-old long time fugitive known as “Butch” Ballow has received a second federal sentence following his admission of defrauding investors in a Nevada company with shares traded on the over-the-counter securities market, announced U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick. Harris Dempsey aka “Butch” Ballow, formerly of formerly of Galveston County, pleaded guilty Feb. 2, 2018, to wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Las Cruces, New Mexico - Sixteen individuals are facing drug trafficking and money laundering charges as the result of a multi-agency investigation led by DEA and HSI that targeted cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine traffickers and money launderers operating in southern New Mexico, west Texas and as far east as Tennessee and South Carolina. During the course of the investigation, law enforcement authorities seized approximately 3.6 kilograms of cocaine, approximately 2.5 kilograms of heroin, approximately 13 kilograms of methamphetamine, $176,860 in assets, to include eleven vehicles, and 10 firearms.
