Washington, DC - The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Friday announced awards totaling more than $110.7 million to reduce recidivism and support adults and youth returning to their communities after confinement.

Washington, DC - The Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, at the request of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), filed a civil antitrust lawsuit Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Biglari Holdings Inc. (Biglari Holdings), a restaurant chain owner and investment fund operator.

Phoenix, Arizona - The Justice Department Monday filed a lawsuit against Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center PC (BDP), an optometry and ophthalmology medical provider, for discriminating against patients who, because of their disabilities, need assistance in transferring from their wheelchairs to the surgical table for outpatient eye surgery. BDP operates 24 facilities in Arizona.

Yuma, Arizona - Southwest Desert - Mostly light rain showers, peak early Friday through the afternoon, and trend down by Saturday (slight chances for lingering showers thereafter). Storm totals of 0.25 - 0.50 inches will be common with 0.50 - 1.00 inches over the higher terrain of Joshua Tree National Park (see map). Widespread flooding is not anticipated but normally dry washes in Joshua Tree NP could see some flow.
Fire Under the Ocean to Ocean Bridge

Yuma, Arizona - Wednesday, at about 5:20 pm, a fire was reported in the area of the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge. Yuma Fire Department personnel arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from underneath the south end of the bridge. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire. Yuma Police Department officers closed down traffic on the bridge while work went on to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

Yuma, Arizona - The law allows for the public to possess or use novelty/minor types fireworks, however many types of fireworks remain illegal in Arizona, specifically those designed to rise into the air and/or explode. Fireworks can only be used from June 24th to July 6th and December 24th to January 3rd. Fireworks continue to be prohibited on all public property including all parks, sidewalks, streets and rights-of-way, except by permit for supervised public displays only.
