Yuma, Arizona - From pedigrees to printouts, too much paper can be time-consuming and expensive to organize and store. Digital files are economical, efficient, and ecological. On Saturday, May 25th, the Genealogical Society of Yuma will host “The Paperless Genealogist” webinar at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library. Presenter Denise May Levenick will share a step-by-step plan to move toward less paper to ensure the best of both paper and digital worlds in genealogical research.
NIH facilitates first Tribal data-sharing agreement with Navajo Nation

Washington, DC - The National Institutes of Health has facilitated a data-sharing and use agreement between the Navajo Nation and NIH grantees of the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program, which was ratified today in a ceremony at the Navajo Nation Head Start Center in Leupp, Arizona. The agreement was signed by the Navajo Nation, Johns Hopkins University (JHU), Baltimore, and RTI International, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Dallas, Texas - Home based, medically supervised cardiac rehabilitation may be, for some patients, an alternative to traditional medical center cardiac rehabilitation programs after a heart attack or other heart procedure, according to a joint scientific statement from the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Dallas, Texas - Drinking water that is contaminated with arsenic may lead to thickening of the heart’s main pumping chamber in young adults, a structural change that increases the risk for future heart problems, according to new research in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging, an American Heart Association journal.

FBI Releases 2018 Statistics on Law Enforcement Officers Killed in the Line of Duty

Washington, DC - According to statistics reported to the FBI, 106 law enforcement officers were killed in line-of-duty incidents in 2018. Of these, 55 officers died as a result of felonious acts, and 51 officers died in accidents. Comprehensive data tables about these incidents and brief narratives describing the fatal attacks are included in the sections of Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, 2018.
