Dallas, Texas - A Texas man was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release for producing images of child sexual abuse. As part of the sentence, the defendant will also pay more than $58,000 in restitution to victims.

Atlanta, Georgia - A Georgia woman was sentenced Tuesday to 41 months in prison for her scheme to fraudulently obtain more than $7.9 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Washington, DC - The Department of Justice Monday announced a new rule to help enable the safe and secure storage of firearms and published a Best Practices Guide for federal firearms licensees (FFLs). This new rule implements the existing Gun Control Act requirement that federal firearms licensees that sell firearms to the general public (non-licensees) must certify that they have available secure gun storage or safety devices. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) Best Practices Guide for FFLs is an important resource and reference guide about federal laws and regulations.

Washington, DC - Speaking at a White House event focused on competition in agriculture, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack expressed their shared commitment to effectively enforcing federal competition laws that protect farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural producers and growers from unfair and anticompetitive practices, including the antitrust laws and the Packers and Stockyards Act. The Department of Justice and Department of Agriculture (USDA) are already working together to support their respective enforcement efforts under these laws. As one step in that continuing process, today they released the following statement of principles and commitments:

Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Fire Department responded to approximately 17,600 emergency calls for service in 2021 (up over 1,000 from last year). Those responses ran the spectrum from unusual, to tragic. The last response of 2021 was for an assault and the first response of 2022 was for a dumpster fire…hopefully nothing prophetic in that…In another year with a significant virus focus, it was suggested that this week’s Fire House Facts again include a selection of some (not all) of the more unusual responses of 2021.
