Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Police Department continues to receive numerous complaints from the Yuma community concerning traffic infractions at the intersection of 16th Street and 4th Avenue.  Because of this our Traffic Unit has again focused more on this area over the past week.

During the week of June 16th through the 23rd a total of 165 traffic stops were conducted in that area.  There were 139 citations issued, some of which had multiple violations.  The highest numbers for a specific violation was 53 and that was for speeding.  Next were 25 violations for no insurance or proof of insurance, 21 violations for improper turn, 17 red light violations and 15 violations for cell phone use.  There were 40 additional violations of various offences along with 7 misdemeanor arrests and or citations issued.

The Yuma Police Department would like to remind our community that the road construction in this area will be ongoing into next year.  Please be patient and courteous with other drivers.  In some areas the speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph.  Please allow extra time to get to your destination if you need to utilize this intersection.
