Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry: "On behalf of President Obama and the American people, it is my pleasure to extend our warmest congratulations to the people of Fiji as you celebrate the 46th anniversary of your nation’s independence this October 10.

"The United States considers Fiji a close friend as well as an important partner on a range of regional and global issues. This was best exemplified last year during the 21st Conference of Parties in Paris, as we worked together to help reach a durable and effective climate change agreement. Fiji is also an important leader on ocean conservation, peacekeeping, and climate change adaptation. The United States looks forward to continued partnership with Fiji on these and other important issues over the coming year.

"On this auspicious occasion, always remember the United States remains committed to expanding our bilateral relationship and deepening people-to-people ties with Fiji. Once again, congratulations on your independence day."
