AWC Chess Club Hosted Workshop for Local Boy Scouts

Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College Chess Club hosted the first ever chess merit badge workshop for Boys Scouts in Yuma on December 13th.  Several areas of AWC have shown an interest in working with local boy scouts on merit badges. This time the suggestion came from the Vice President of the Chess Club, Kitt Bergqvist, who is also a homeschool student and Boy Scout in Troop 8056.

Amberly’s Place Thrift Shop Buglary

Yuma, Arizona - On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at about 8 a.m., a burglary was reported at Amberly’s Place Thrift Shop, located in the 800 block of S. Avenue A.  The burglary occurred between 5:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Two boxes of clothing and other items were taken during the burglary.

Fairmount Apartments Fire

Yuma, Arizona - Last night, shortly after 10:00pm smoke was reported coming from an apartment in the 2200 block of West 19th Street. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found a fire burning inside an apartment in the Fairmount Apartments, 2293 West 19th Street. Firefighters evacuated tenants from adjoining apartments and were able to quickly bring the fire under control and extinguish it.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Yuma, Arizona - Recently there have been some fires in Yuma that appeared suspicious. One involved a vacant house where people were seen regularly trespassing on the property. It is not known if this fire was intentionally set or something caused unintentionally by trespassers, but we do know suspicious activity was seen on the property.
