Border Patrol Seizes 195 Pounds of Marijuana

Camp Grip, Arizona - U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station seized approximately 195 pounds of abandoned marijuana yesterday, valued at an estimated $95,500.

Agents assigned toCampGrip, Yuma Sector’s forward operating base, located four makeshift backpacks of marijuana in the desert while patrolling just north of the U.S./Mexico border. The marijuana was seized for destruction per Yuma Sector policy.  No arrests were made in connection with the seizure.

Yuma Sector has been effective in combating smuggling organizations attempting to transport contraband through southwesternArizona.  The probabilities of arrest and associated penalties cause smugglers to often abandon their drug loads rather than risk apprehension and prosecution.
