Yuma Border Patrol arrests 3 drug smugglers, seize 718 pounds of marijuana

Yuma, Arizona - U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector arrested three drug smugglers and seized a total of 718 pounds of marijuana in three separate incidents during the past two days.

Agents apprehended two Mexican nationals and seized 413 pounds of marijuana in the desert south of Gila Bend Sunday night. The two were discovered by agents using night vision equipment.

Yesterday, agents discovered an additional 300 pounds of marijuana abandoned in Davidson Canyon on the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.

Later that day, agents arrested an individual attempting to smuggle five pounds of marijuana through the checkpoint on California Highway 78.

The seized marijuana had a total estimated value of $359,000.
