Andrade, California - Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector arrested a convicted sex offender and seized nearly 130 pounds of marijuana during two incidents Sunday and Monday.
Yuma Station agents patrolling nearAndrade,Calif.detected footprints of a group of four individuals who had entered theU.S.illegally. After apprehending the group, records checks revealed one of the subjects was previously convicted of indecent liberties with a child. The suspect, a Honduran national, was processed for prosecution.
Wellton Station agents assigned toCampGrip, Yuma Sector’s forward operating base, discovered six bundles of abandoned marijuana in the desert. After searching the area and finding no suspects, the marijuana, valued at $65,000, was seized for destruction per Yuma Sector guidelines.
Yuma Sector has been effective in combating smuggling organizations attempting to transport contraband through southwesternArizona. The probabilities of arrest and associated penalties often cause smugglers to abandon their drug loads rather than risk capture.
