Arizona Western College Welcomes President of Universidad Bolivariana PDF Print E-mail

Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College announced the visit of Martin Garate, President, Universidad Bolivariana. After the word of the amazing AWC/NAU partnership reached Santiago, Chile and after learning about the outstanding programs, world-class faculty, and programs to develop conversational English, Martin decided to investigate.

Garate will be visiting Rotary, the AWC/NAU-Yuma campus as well as NAU-Flagstaff as he learns more about opportunities for his students as well as shares the possibility of study abroad with our students.

Chile is ranked 19th, ahead of Spain, Portugal, and Italy, in the Best Country for Business 2008 List by Forbes Magazine (Forbes, 2008). Yuma is the gateway to Latin America, but this time around Latin America is coming to Yuma.

“I understand that President Garate is a huge fan of American football so we are hosting him at our homecoming game” said Dr. Schoening

Garate will visit and speak to the Noon Discovery Presentation on the AWC Main Campus on Wednesday, October 28th. The Noon Discovery Club will take place in the Palo Verde Room at noon. Garate’s topic of discussion will be “Life Under Pinochet.”

AWC’s Honors and Phi Theta Kappa, and the International Student Program are hosting Garate during his visit to Arizona. Dr. Garate will spend time with Dr. Don Schoening, Arizona Western College President, to share educational concepts and challenges they face in two different cultures.
