Yuma, Arizona - Monday at 8:00am, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental shooting, involving dove hunters. The victim, 38-year-old Darby Engles, was hunting with her husband at Orange Groves County 14 ¾ near Avenue 2 ¾.

She had gone to their vehicle, which was parked in some orange groves to take a break and was seated on the tailgate when an unknown hunter fired a round from behind some trees.

The round was fired too low and several pellets from the shotgun struck Mrs. Engles. Mrs. Engles was struck in the left neck, right forearm, and both legs. She was taken to YRMC for treatment. Her injuries are not life threatening. The other hunter involved in this incident was not located.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all hunters to always be aware of what is behind your target.
