Yuma, Arizona - Late last night Yuma Fire Department’s four firefighters returned from their Strike team assignment to California. They were notified Sunday that they were being demobilized and began the process that ended with them leaving the Chico, CA area (North of San Francisco) around 5:00 am yesterday morning and arriving back in Yuma about 10:00 pm last night.

Yuma’s firefighters first left for assignment to the “Oliver Fire” near Mariposa, CA. on Monday July 23nd . Last week, as they were getting ready to be sent home, they were reassigned to the “BTU Fire” further north. Their final assignment was to a fire in the “Canyons Complex” of fires near Chico, CA., and were for a time in Yosemite National Park. They were mostly assigned to structural protection duties. Captain Daniel Ott, Engineer Rick Phillips, Firefighter/Paramedic Terry Smith and Firefighter/EMT Jesus Hernandez are expected to be returning back to their regular duty assignments soon.
