Yuma, Arizona - Late last night, word was received that the Imperial Valley Strike Team, called up last Monday afternoon, was preparing to be “de-mobilized” and were expecting to be returning home later today. Those plans have been put on hold and the Strike Team has been notified that they might need to be reassigned from the “Oliver Fire” to another area.

This is due to the limited fire-fighting resources available, compared to the large number of fires burning in California.

Yuma Fire Department personnel, Captain Daniel Ott, Engineer Rick Phillips, Firefighter/Paramedic Terry Smith and Firefighter/EMT Jesus Hernandez have been in contact with the department and their families. They are reported to be in good spirits and waiting for a final word on whether they will be redeployed or coming home. Their assignments have largely consisted of protecting structures threatened by the fire in their area.
