Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Police Department, in an effort to provide for a safer community, will be conducting an intensive impaired driving enforcement detail this weekend beginning on Thursday, July 3rd and continuing through Sunday, July 6th.

Throughout the holiday weekend, additional officers will be working at various times in overtime capacities to detect and apprehend impaired drivers. The detail will be funded by a grant the Yuma Police Department received from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Nearly 42% of fatal accidents in Arizona involve impaired drivers and holiday weekends tend to result in increased numbers of impaired motorists on roadways across the nation. The Yuma Police Department encourages the public to do their part by not drinking & driving & promptly reporting suspected impaired drivers.
