Tucson, Arizona - Governor Janet Napolitano today presented an Arizona Innovation Award to Tucson’s Critical Path Institute (C-Path), recognizing the institute’s work in bringing new medical technologies to the market in a faster, safer and smarter way.
“C-Path is the kind of innovative entity that will help give Arizona a competitive edge in the 21st century economy,” Governor Napolitano said. “Having assets such as C-Path, whose purpose is bringing promising medications, therapies and devices to market, is vital not just to Arizona’s economy, but to public health, as well.”

C-Path works to bring treatments through the government approval process by encouraging and enabling collaboration between the public, the private sector, and academia. The Governor commended C-Path’s partnerships with the University of Arizona, as well as C-Path’s research on lung cancer biomarkers, rare diseases and drug safety. C-Path is a non-profit organization that opened in Tucson two years ago. “We are dedicated to finding those innovations that speed the safe development of medical advances, and are pleased that our efforts are being recognized in this way,” said Dr. Raymond Woosley, President and CEO of C-Path. “We are grateful to have Governor Napolitano’s support, and look forward to our continued partnership with the Arizona community.”

The Arizona Innovation Awards are part of Governor Napolitano’s effort to promote innovation, math, science and technology in our state. The public is welcome and encouraged to submit nominations for awards online at www.azcommerce.com.
