Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College proudly announces the placement of fifteen automotive students in the General Motors Desert Proving Ground Facility for a summer internship. These AWC students are working along side the experienced technicians and engineers at the GM Proving Ground in Mesa, Arizona. The 15 students were recruited from a total of 21 applicants. The AWC students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, be pursuing their AAS in Automotive, and be enrolled in the coming semester. General Motors is providing the interns with housing at the Arizona State Polytechnic Center at Williams Gateway Airfield. The students will complete their three month internship on August 8th. During their three month internship they were rotated through several technical assignments in areas like thermal testing, Powertrain testing, durability testing and machine shop work. “In the spring of 2009…General Motors will be opening a testing facility in Yuma at the Yuma Proving Ground.
