CBP Officers Seize Marijuana at Arizona Port of Entry PDF Print E-mail

Douglas, Arizona - Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a marijuana smuggling attempt when they seized $255,000 of marijuana Monday.

CBP officers became suspicious of a 2001 Chevrolet pick-up about 8:30 a.m. that was occupied by two men. The driver was a 22-year-old man from Oklahoma and the passenger was a 20-year-old man from Chihuahua, Mexico. Utilizing advanced technology, officers searched the vehicle and discovered more than 100 pounds of marijuana concealed in metal boxes hidden in the gas tank.

CBP officers in Douglas, Ariz. removed a trucks gas tank then peeled off the top, revealing two metal boxes that contained a quarter million dollars worth of marijuana.

The marijuana had an estimated street value of $255,000.

CBP seized the vehicle and marijuana. The men were turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution.

While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in significant enforcement actions in all categories.
