Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College is proud to announce 17 Students graduated with a certificate from AWC and credentials from Cornell University during last weeks Commencement event.

The Cornell Family Development Credential Program emerged in the mid-1990s from a research-policy collaborative between Cornell University College of Human Ecology’s Department of Human Development, and New York State’s council on Children and Families.

Today, the Cornell Family Development Credential Program continues to provide frontline workers with the knowledge and skills they need to coach families to set and reach their own goals for health self-reliance in their communities.

Since the first FDC credentials were issued by Cornell's School of Continuing Education in December, 1997, over 20,000 students nationwide have earned the credential. Arizona Western College is proud to be only 1 of 6 institutes of higher-education to offer to the credential.

Currently the credential is offered, for credit, at Colorado State University, Rutgers University, Indiana University, the University of Alaska, Duke University and Arizona Western College.

To earn the Family Development Credential, students must complete the required 11-credit hours set forth by Arizona Western College, complete a portfolio documenting their ability to apply these concepts and skills, and pass a standardized exam.
