Washington, DC - Tomorrow, Representative Raul M. Grijalva, Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Education and Job Training Task Force, will testify at the House Education and Labor Committee Hearing on "America's Competitiveness through High School Reform"

Representative Grijalva, who is serving his 4th term in Congress and is a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor, will present the CHC's priorities on high school education reform. As part of his testimony, Representative Grijalva will speak on the importance of investing in high school education and, specifically, what can be done to improve educational attainment for Latino students. His testimony will focus on the need for high school reform to take into account Latino students and English Language Learners (ELL). He will highlight the need to provide funding and training for teachers working with Latino and ELL students funding and the value of including parents of Latino and ELL students in their child's education.

Furthermore, his testimony will address the high dropout rates of Latino students, which currently have the highest dropout rate of any group at 27.5 percent. He will discuss ways to ensure that high schools have the proper tools needed to end the dropout crisis in the Latino community, and he will urge the committee to pass the CHC-endorsed Graduation Promise Act, legislation that authorizes additional funding for drop out prevention programs.
