Yuma, Arizona - This morning at 1:26 am, an attempted homicide occurred in the 1700 block of West 5th Street. The investigation revealed two male victims, one adult and one juvenile, were walking in the area when they were approached by occupants of a light colored minivan.

The victims were challenged in a gang-related fashion.  After challenging the victims, the suspects opened a side door of the vehicle and several shots were fired. A dark colored small passenger car was also seen in the immediate area, and it is possible this vehicle was related to the occupants in the van. Both victims were transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds.  One victim was treated and released for his injuries.  The second victim was flown to a Phoenix area hospital with serious injuries.

In what may be a related case, a stolen minivan was located in the West Main Canal near Avenue B later in the morning.

The Yuma Police Department encourages anybody with any information about this case to call the Yuma Police Detective Jeff Drabent at (928) 373-4670 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
