Yuma, Arizona - United States Border Patrol Agents from the Yuma Station saved two men from drowning in the Colorado River on Sunday.

Agents in the Yuma Station Boat Unit encountered two men struggling to stay afloat in the strong current of the Colorado River. Upon approaching the men, the agents noticed that both individuals showed signs of exhaustion and swiftly pulled them into their vessel.

The two subjects told the agents that they were part of a larger group of six individuals who were floating on the Colorado River on inner tubes. One of the men had abandoned his inner tube in an attempt to swim to shore and the second subject was attempting to help when they fell into distress.

The agents were able to find the other four individuals floating along the river and took all six men to shore. The agents offered all six subjects medical attention, but they declined.

During Fiscal Year 2009, the Yuma Sector Border Patrol has rescued a total of 20 people.
