Phoenix, Arizona - Each year, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano selects two youth to represent Arizona at the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia. Applications are currently being accepted from high school seniors interested in this once in a lifetime experience.

"The National Youth Science Camp is a wonderful opportunity for Arizona students," Governor Napolitano said. "The camp will highlight the importance of strong math and science skills for seniors who are currently preparing for their postsecondary education, and ultimately jobs in the 21st century workforce."

The nearly month-long experience includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation; overnight expeditions into the Monongahela National Forest; and a visit to Washington, D.C. The selected students will exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from the academic and corporate worlds.

The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants, so that selected delegates may attend regardless of their financial status. The program is funded through contributions to the National Youth Science Foundation. Delegates arrive in Charleston, WV Wednesday, July 1, 2009 and depart Saturday, July 25, 2009. The Science Camp is held at Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia.

The selected delegates must not only demonstrate academic achievement in science or mathematics, but also show potential for thoughtful scientific leadership. Application forms are available on the Science Camp Web site at www.nysc.org and must be submitted directly to Arizona’s selection coordinator at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it The application deadline is Friday, January 23, 2009.
