San Luis, Arizona - United States Customs and Border Protection officers stopped six undocumented aliens from celebrating the 2009 New Year in the United States along with an alien smuggler.

“Our CBP mission is very diverse but that does not stop the officers from fulfilling their duty,” said Port Director William K. Brooks. “The officers understand identity theft is more ramped now than ever before and possess a risk to our countries security.” “This threat is one of the reasons the officers are trained and very skilled in detecting these types of violators.”

On Tuesday, just before 3 p.m., a CBP officer screening travelers entering the U.S. from Mexico encountered a vehicle with four occupants driven by a 53-year-old U.S. citizen woman. The officer became suspicious of the Legal Permanent Resident alien document that the 45-year-old man presented.

All four occupants were then escorted to the passport control office for further inspection. It was found the woman driver had been paid $500 to bring in the undocumented man. Both were detained for immigration processing. Also, the 2005 Chevy Impala owned by the driver and $317 of the $500 paid were seized from the driver and the other two occupants were released.

On New Years Eve just before 8 a.m., two men applied for entry into the U.S. just minutes apart by presenting valid temporary agricultural worker H2A visas. A CBP officer screening travelers entering from Mexico during the interview process ascertained the first traveler was no longer employed with the visa’s petitioner and had been working with another organization, which is a violation of the temporary worker visa program.

The second man was also found to be in violation of the same law, but was interviewed by another CBP officer. Both men were detained for immigration processing.

On the same date at approximately 8:30 a.m., a 69-year-old woman applied for entry into the U.S. through the pedestrian entrance by presenting a valid Legal Permanent Resident document. A CBP officer who was screening travelers entering from Mexico detected the woman’s nervousness and discovered the photo and fingerprints on the document she presented were not hers.

The woman was then escorted into the passport control office and taken into custody for immigration processing.

Later on the same date, just after 1:30 p.m. minutes apart, two women applied for entry into the U.S. through the pedestrian entrance. The first presented a valid Border Crossing card (DSP-150) and the second presented a Legal Permanent Resident document. A CBP officer screening travelers entering from Mexico discovered that the documents presented by the two women did not match their identities.

Therefore, both woman were individually escorted into the passport control office and were taken into custody for immigration processing.
