Yuma, Arizona - Arizona Western College's Massage Therapy Program is offering Spring 2009 Classes for Massage Therapists and registration is taking place right now. The Massage Therapy Program would also like to welcome and introduce new instructor, Judy Pearson.
Judy Pearson, a Licensed Massage Therapist and an Associate Faculty Member at AWC, will be instructing the LMT 220 Healing Stone Massage class. She started her career in health care as a Certified Nursing Assistant, working in Skilled Nursing Facilities, eventually working as a Home Health Aide and with Hospice. In 1996, she moved to Arizona, completing her training in Massage Therapy at Phoenix Therapeutic Massage College, graduating in 1998. Judy trained in La Stone (2005) and La Stone Reflexology (2007). She brings her considerable knowledge in caring for all people to all of her classes. Judy also works at Lotus Day Spa since their opening in 2004.
The classes offered qualify for Arizona State Massage Board CEU’s. Here are the classes for Spring 2009:
LMT 220 Healing Stone Massage
This class covers the history, benefits and principles as well as applications (hot & cold), indications and contraindications for healing stone massage. 2 credits (32 contact hours) Instructor: Judith Pearson Class meets One Weekend, Friday through Monday January 9, 10, 11 & 12 9 am to 1 pm & 2 pm to 6 pm all four days LMT 219 Sports Massage
Explores the purpose, benefits, and contraindications of sports massage, sports physiology, massage techniques, applications and treatment of injury. 3 credits (48 contact hours) Instructor: Megan Guthrie Class meets for the full semester, Mondays 9 am to 11 am, Lab times TBD with instructor for practice at community sporting events. LMT 099 Tips, Tricks & Techniques
Offers the practicing LMT the opportunity to learn new tools to add to their practice. Guest speakers and visiting professionals round out a great way to keep in touch with other professionals and enhance your own practice. 1 credit (16 contact hours) Instructor: Kate Turpin Class meets the second Monday of every month for spring semester, 8 am to noon LMT 222 Pregnancy and Labor Massage
Advanced Techniques to provide relief and support during pregnancy and labor. 2 credits (32 contact hours) Instructor: Kate Turpin Class meets Wednesday 9 am to 1 pm, March 11 to May 13 To register on-line (go to azwestern.edu) or in person (Monday through Thursday). Students registering for the first time must see an advisor or a counselor first (certain restrictions apply). The Spring semester begins Monday, January 12th, so register today!
