Yuma Children's Center Fire - Significant Damage

Yuma, Arizona - On Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at about 7:15 pm a fire was reported at The Children’s Center, 1701 South Avenue B. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters found a fire burning in ceiling areas of the building.

Grand Canyon Protected

Washington, DC - Today, the Natural Resources Committee adopted a resolution to require the Secretary of Interior to withdraw public lands adjacent to the Grand Canyon National Park from uranium mining activities. Representative Raul M. Grijalva, Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, introduced the resolution.

Truth in Taxation - Yuma Public Hearing

Yuma, Arizona - While the City of Yuma’s primary property tax rate is going down, the amount of taxes paid by many homeowners may increase due to higher property values.  To help explain it all, the City is holding its annual “Truth in Taxation” public hearing during the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Yuma City Council, which is Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Yuma Strike Team Arrives in Merced to Battle California Wildfires

Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Fire Department engine and personnel requested for assistance with the current California wildfire situation arrived in Brawley late yesterday afternoon. The YFD engine company joined engines and firefighters from the Calexico Fire Department, Imperial Fire Department, Holtville Fire Department, and the Brawley Fire Department.

Yuma Fire Department Responds to California Wildfires

Yuma, Arizona - This afternoon the Yuma Fire Department was requested to provide an Engine Company for mutual aid assignment to wildfires in central California. An engine with four YFD personnel (1 Captain, 1 Engineer, and 2 Firefighters) left just after 4:00 pm for Brawley, California where they will join other Imperial Valley area fire service units.
